SilverCup
In "Silvercup," a 100x80 cm mixed-media work combining acrylic paint and photographic print, the iconic skyline of New York City comes alive in a whole new light. The black-and-white photograph, captured during my time living in the city, provides a grounding sense of urban grit and nostalgia. Yet, with bold strokes of bright yellow and red acrylic paint, the artwork transforms the scene—lifting it beyond the monochrome into a vibrant, reimagined vision of the cityscape.
The two primary colors—yellow and red—jump off the canvas, sharply contrasting with the grayscale buildings. They breathe new life into the architectural forms and cast a surreal glow across the sky, as if the city itself is illuminated by an unseen, abstract energy. The historic Silvercup sign, a beloved feature of the New York skyline, becomes a focal point, its letters standing out against the vivid hues, symbolizing both the old and the new, the iconic and the evolving.
This work plays with perspective, blending reality and abstraction. The primary colors are not just accents; they reshape how the viewer sees the city, as though the artist invites you to look at familiar streets and structures from a fresh, imaginative lens.
Silvercup is a celebration of New York's energy and its ever-changing skyline, where history and modernity converge in bold, dynamic strokes.
